Some noticeable features

Creating a New Project in Premiere Rush
Creating a New Project in Premiere Rush

Premiere Rush allows you to use your Dropbox files to start a new project. Tapping on the plus brings the interface like the above image where you can add videos and photos. The app supports more than 100 files in a single project. Although the device’s hardware specifications may not be enough, the app allows selecting over a hundred files. The option Sample Media contains a few videos to help you learn and play with the app, while Rush Soundtracks offers some music files and effects.

The app offers a tour when you start the app for the first time. You can start the tour again at any time by going to preferences and then by touching on Start the tour button. When you create a new project, the app asks if you want to sync the project with Creative Cloud. The app also syncs the media files, so make sure you have an unlimited Wi-Fi connection.

Main interface

The main interface looks like a normal mobile video editor. On the top, you see the sequence name with export options. The plus sign at the beginning of the bottom panel is for adding new content, including voiceover to the project. The next three options are viewing options. You can see the assets for the project, enable and disable the view of the tracks, and switch between landscape, portrait, and square orientations. You can zoom in and out by pinching the tracks while holding and moving each allows sorting the media.

The first tool is the Titles. The app comes with 38 built-in styles, while more titles option allows browsing the Adobe store and for more style. Taping on each adds to the current time whereas to edit, double tap on the title on the video view part. The time and duration can be specified in the tracks section. Other options include layer, font, font style, and size.

Transitions Tool in Premiere Rush

When a clip ends, and a new clip starts, the way of change is called a transition. Adobe Premiere Rush mobile comes with three effects. To apply the effect, tp on Transitions and select one of the given. The duration button is for the transition duration. If you go all the way to 3 seconds, the transition effect will take 3 seconds to fully show video, and vice versa if you slide to the left.

Colors in Premiere Rush

The next section in Adobe Premiere Rush tutorial is about filters. Like a typical mobile video editor, the app offers filters, and it comes with 11 built-in filters. Each filter then can be customised by changing the intensity, exposure, contrast, highlights, saturation, sharpening, vignette amount, and feather. The switch next to those options is to enable and disable the effects. This helps in differentiating between the actual and filtered clip.

Moreover, you can create your own presets of the customised colours. To create, tap on the options and then tap on create a preset button. You will be asked to give it a name. Any time you want to use, you can browse your presets option to explore your presets.

Speed Option in Premiere Rush

The next option in the panel is speed. Adobe Premiere Rush comes with advanced speed adjusting features. You can select a custom duration of a clip using the range feature and change the speed of that part without splitting the video. After applying the range, you will see two icons at the top of the clip in the tracks. Move those and select the area you want to modify.

The Ramp option is like the transition effects for audio. It allows changing the starting and ending speed of effect. If you want the app to maintain the pitch of the sound, then you can enable the pitch option as well. A couple of tools, including the reset button and switch, are the same.

Audio Options in Premiere Rush
Audio Options in Premiere Rush

A few quick options are clip volume, mute clip, type of voice (which automatically detects if you already have sound in the video), auto volume, sound balance, and a few more. Any time if you want to expand the audio or separate the audio of a clip, tap and hold on that clip and a window will pop up with a few options such as extract audio and separate audio. If the type is selected as voice, you will see reduce noise, and reduce echo options as well.

If you don’t know much about reducing noise and echo, then I would suggest enabling and feeling the difference. Also, I would recommend not adjusting the slider a lot, because if you go too far, then you will start losing the naturality of the sound. By default, the app selects a number to maintain the naturality of the sound and reduce the background noise at the same time.

Transform in Premiere Rush

A quick tip about the transform tool: You can change a clip’s position, scale, and rotation by tapping on the clip in the view section. The same options are in the Transform panel.  Although there are some extra options such as lock scale, crop top, crop bottom etc. which are used for cropping the clip.

Some other tools

At the end of the panel, there are:

  1. Cut to split a clip,
  2. duplicate to duplicate a clip at the end of the video,
  3. delete a clip,
  4. extra sound (also by holding onto a clip), and
  5. enable and disable the option to modify the length of the video

The app offers to set the quality of the video before exporting. You can leave it to Auto for the app to select the best quality, or if you want the full HD, then the option is available in the dropdown menu. The app is powered by Adobe Sensei, which other Creative Clouds apps use, so you can open the Premiere Rush projects into Premiere Pro as well.

The Premiere Rush tutorial covered the essential features of Premiere Rush. The app sure is one of the easiest ways to edit videos on your mobile phone, and besides, there are many video editors, no app provides those kinds of tools.
