Afterpay vs. QuadPay (2022)

Afterpay vs. QuadPay (2022)

With the rapid growth in the buy now and pay later services, we see new services introduced frequently. Afterpay is one of the most experienced services; while QuadPay is still new, a recent deal with Zip Co and its attractive features have made it to the top.

How do both differ? The article: Afterpay vs. QuadPay covers the features and benefits of both.

Afterpay and QuadPay Availability

Afterpay is available in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. The service is supported by over 48,000 stores worldwide.

The app also provides a virtual card (not available everywhere) to add to Google or Apple Pay to use in-store. However, you will need to activate it in the Afterpay app every time you use it.

QuadPay, in contrast, does not support as many stores as Afterpay, but the nature of the service allows shopping anywhere where Visa is accepted. Like Afterpay, you can add the virtual card to your payment app and use it in-store and online.

Signing up

Sign up process

The sign-up process for both is somewhat the same. Afterpay asks:

  1. Email address
  2. Phone number
  3. Valid ID
  4. Date of birth
  5. Card or bank details

The app may charge a small fee to confirm the payment details. However, the company does not check or affect your credit score.

QuadPay, on the other hand, asks for the mobile number, and the rest of the details are followed after mobile number verification. According to the official website, the company does not do a hard credit check, but the page does not mention anything about a soft credit check.

How do they work?

How Do Buy Now and Pay Later Services Work

How to use Afterpay

The next section of Afterpay vs. QuadPay is the ways both work. Afterpay can be used in multiple ways. Let’s cover each one by one:

Instore: You can either use the virtual card or the barcode instore. The barcode that lasts for 10 minutes can be generated in the app. Also, the code only works on the participant stores. According to the website, the virtual card, which is slowly taking over on barcode, is quicker to pay.

Online: While shopping online, you can choose the Afterpay option on the checkout page. A window displays asking to put in your account details. After that, the merchant site verifies the payment and shows you the repayment plan. Once confirmed, the payment is processed.

There are three ways to use QuadPay.

Instore: While shopping in-store, you can go to the QuadPay app and tap on the Instore button on the top. A window asking to put the total amount appears. Once you have inserted the amount, the virtual card saved in your payment app can be used to pay in-store.

Online: The initial steps of putting the total amount are the same as paying in-store. The virtual card of the app works just like a credit or debit card. First, you get the card number, expiry date, and CVV code to put on the retailer’s website to pay. The second option is looking for the “Pay with QuadPay option”. This option leads to the QuadPay website to sign in with your account. The next steps are the same as Afterpay.

Afterpay vs QuadPay

The minimum limit Afterpay offers is between $200 to $350, depending on your nation. The company increases the limit after you have made some successful repayments. The maximum limit Afterpay offer is $1,500, but in Australia, the limit can go up to $2,000. There is no minimum spending limit from Afterpay, but brands may limit particular payment methods.

QuadPay, on the other hand, offers a couple of hundred dollars initially, and just like Afterpay, the limit increases as you use the service. Unfortunately, the maximum limit is not mentioned on the website, but I guess that it is between $1,500 and $2,500.

Late fees

Starting with Afterpay, the company charges $10 if the total order value is less than $40. If the order value is over $40, the company charges up to 25% of the installment. The company charges a further $7 if the payment is not cleared within seven days.

QuadPay, on the contrary, charges a $7 fee if you miss a payment. Furthermore, the company has also set a maximum charging limit of $14 per order. In other words, you will be charged a maximum of $14 for an order.

Risks of BNPL

Risks of Using Buy Now Pay Later Services

Putting your hands into one of those services is risky. Both don’t do a credit check, for starters, so there is no way for both companies to find out if the customer can pay back on time. Secondly, shoppers can overspend easily, which can lead to difficulties in paying back.

Which one should you choose?

Both are good, but it depends on what you need those for. Afterpay is trusted, but it does not offer a card that can work everywhere.

QuadPay, even though it is not offered in many stores, the engaging nature makes it a perfect choice. So, until Afterpay does not offer the same, I suggest signing up for QuadPay is suitable.

Hey good unbiased review of both! Afterpay has now also offered a free of charge bnpl to select us customers at several major us retailers like Amazoj, Nike, Macy's and many more. Apparently these major us retailers represent 50 percent of all eccomerce sale in the us. I believe this was offered due to after pay customers wanting to be able to ship at more places. I personally use zip( quadpay in the us) and the visa integration means I use zip for all purchases. Shopping. Fuel. Online. Restaurants. Everything . Then each month I just transfer money from my bank to zip. It's basically a credit card now fort me less the larger fees and interest charged of a traditional credit card

Thanks, Simon, for your words. It's good to know about the free of charge feature. Still, if Afterpay offers a card to use anywhere, that would boost its usage across all the countries. QuadPay is not as big as Afterpay, but you can use it anywhere, making it an on the go payment method.
