Airtable vs. ClickUp

Airtable vs. ClickUp

Airtable is a database management app with advanced options. ClickUp is a many-in-one program making it easier to skip other apps.

Which one is for you? Let’s deep dive into the Airtable vs. ClickUp battle and find your next program.

What are both?

Airtable

How Does Airtable Work

Airtable is a relational database tool that can also be used for online collaboration and database management.

It can organize and track inventories, manage tasks, and build almost anything.

Databases are more complicated than spreadsheets, but Airtable makes them easier.

The app comes with views to see data differently. In the Grid view, we see a standard table, whereas if you have a date in the table, you can enable the calendar view to see tasks on a calendar.

To sort out your work, Airtable has “Bases.” A base is either a project (if the project is smaller) or a part of the project.

For instance, I have two bases for my website. One tracks the earnings, while the other tracks the blog and its updates. I can use the same base for both tasks.

ClickUp

ClickUp Overview

ClickUp is not focused on a single feature. It supports a plethora of options, including tasks, documents, tables, conversations, calendars, timelines, and more.

Depending on your work style, you will either like ClickUp or dislike it.

The tool is all-in-one but has a crowded interface, making it challenging for beginners.

However, like Airtable, we find views on ClickUp. Each view comes with an interface and a set of options. Like “Bases” in Airtable, we find “Spaces” to separate projects.

Interface

Airtable takes pride in its design. You can create multiple tables in one base and change the view to any of the below:

  • Form
  • Calendar
  • Gallery
  • Kanban
  • Timeline (Pro)
  • Gantt (Pro)

Each view has different options. ClickUp, on the other hand, has three interface views:

  • Core
  • Advanced
  • Page

Core views offer three ways to see your content: list, board, and calendar.

Advanced views offer various choices, including the ability to see the process as a map, a Gantt chart, a timeline, and more.

Finally, the embed view, doc view, form view, and chat view are options for page views.

Platforms

Both are available on Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, and the web. ClickUp is also offered for Android Wear and Apple Watch.

Features

In this section of Airtable vs. ClickUp, we discover some unique options.

Airtable

Automation

Automation in ClickUp
Automation in ClickUp

What distinguishes Airtable from Excel and Google Sheets is its automation. You can automate tasks to make the project flow smoothly.

For example, if someone changes any data in a table, the users (assigned) can get a Slack message.

Also, you can run commands for features like reminders and remind the responsible individuals about their tasks.

Create your interface

This feature enables you to design interfaces without writing any code.

These interfaces gather information from your existing data to produce a unique interface catered to your requirements.

Airtable Universe

You can find and explore many databases and templates in Airtable Universe, which is essentially like a workplace community. You may also use these premade bases to make your own.

Airtable Marketplace

Airtable Marketplace is a “market” for extensions you can use with your bases. One extension is allowed for free. The marketplace also has scripts available for use with your codes.

Sync data

You can sync data between bases in your account. Only one sync is offered for free.

ClickUp features

Tasks and reminders

ClickUp can create tasks and reminders with a few clicks.

More views

ClickUp-Whiteboard
ClickUp Whiteboard

ClickUp supports more views than Airtable. The additional views of ClickUp include the following:

  • Mind map: Tree (hierarchy) visualization
  • Workload: Team’s overall performance
  • Activity: For activities
  • Map: See tasks on a map
  • Whiteboard: Brainstorm ideas
  • Doc: Create and share documents
  • Embed: Embed videos, Twitter, maps, and more
  • Form: Create forms from your data

ClickApps

Each ClickApp adds new functionality, such as Task Priorities, Tags, Custom Fields, and Time Tracking.

With the help of these features, you can access all shortcuts without first having to create a task and assign each one a specific feature.

Custom chart

ClickUp allows you to make personalized graphs and charts for tracking your progress.

Goals

The Free pan includes 100 goals. Each goal can have a target. ClickUp offers four different types of targets:

  • Number: Construct a range of numbers and keep note of any adjustments between them.
  • True/False: To indicate that your Target is finished, use a Done/Not Done checkbox.
  • Money: Establish a financial goal and keep tabs on any gains or losses.
  • Task: Monitor the accomplishment of a specific task or a List as a whole.

Custom Task Status

ClickUp allows you to create custom task statuses. The status can be modified based on your labels. To-do, In-progress, and complete are the typical task status labels.

Swimlanes

Swimlanes-in-ClickUp
Swimlanes-in-ClickUp

ClickUp has the Swimlanes option to combine two views and see your project differently.

Screen recording

Now that ClickUp includes a built-in screen recorder, you can record your screen without needing a separate program. You can record audio, video, or both using this feature.

Similar features

  • File attachments
  • Collaboration
  • Importing data
  • Calendar
  • Content management
  • Document management
  • Version control

Collaboration

Without collaboration, those tools would be incomplete. Airtable lets you add up to four individuals to collaborate for free.

You can assign four authorization levels to determine who can access and make changes to your database. Those include creator, editor, commenter, and read-only.

On ClickUp, you can add as many users as you like, but everyone will have the free plan options.

Also, guests are not allowed on its free plan. If you add someone, they will have full access.

Integrations

Airtable’s automation is pretty much its integration with other apps. It supports one extension (third-party) app on its free plan.

Some of those apps include Slack, Asana, Typeform, and Miro. The complete list is available on the official page.

ClickUp supports many integrations. Some integration types are not for free users, but we find many to make the most of it. You can check out the whole range of integrations on the website.

My recommendation

Airtable is a great database and project management app. If your job is to manage tasks and data and beautifully present them, go with Airtable.

ClickUp is a lot more than Airtable. It lets you manage everything.

If you are looking for a task and project management program with a bit of database management, document writing, and brainstorming, ClickUp is the ideal app.
