NordVPN and CyberGhost are two popular VPNs. NordVPN is an industry-leading tool; while CyberGhost is not as popular as NordVPN, it is still one of the great tools. So, is CyberGhost better than NordVPN? The article does a few tests and covers NordVPN vs. CyberGhost.

- Which one is for you?
NordVPN comes with 5472 servers in 59 countries. CyberGhost contrarily offers 6535 servers in 90 nations.
The server count difference is not a lot, but CyberGhost supports more regions. This also means that in the countries where NordVPN is available, you will most likely find more servers than CyberGhost increasing the chances of connecting to a fast and closer server.
Winner: CyberGhost | Score: CyberGhost: 1
This bit is important if you don’t want to be run into any speed or connection issues. A protocol is a way of connecting your device to the VPN server. The protocol you use to connect represents the speed and security of the connection.
Now, let’s talk about our VPNs. NordVPN Android and the desktop apps offer their own NordLynx (based on WireGuard protocol) and OpenVPN (the most popular protocol).
CyberGhost, on the other hand, offers protocols depending on the platform. They support IKEv2, OpenVPN, and WireGuard protocols, but you will only find OpenVPN and WireGuard on the Android app.

Streaming over VPN is common and popular these days. Many geo-restricted services can be accessed using a VPN. The above image shows what streaming services both offer. The information displayed is taken from public and official websites, and the actual number could be more than what is displayed.
CyberGhost offer support for more platforms than CyberGhost. Although NordVPN offers to set up the router to secure all connected devices, a separate application for other platforms would have been nice.

In total, NordVPN vs. CyberGhost conducts 6 tests. The round winner gets one point.
The speed test splits into wifi and mobile data.
Wi-fi speed test
The former’s download speed was only 1 Mbps lower than the latter, while the latter’s upload speed was a lot faster.
The download speed has more preference than upload usually, but this difference made NordVPN the winner of this round.
Winner: NordVPN | Score: NordVPN: 1
Mobile data speed test
NordVPN showed a massive jump (68.2 Mbps), and the speed was more than twice what CyberGhost recorded (30.7 Mbps), but the upload speed of CyberGhost was much faster than NordVPN.
This round also goes to NordVPN because the download speed has a higher preference than upload, and the recorded download speed of both showed a big difference.
Winner: NordVPN | Score: NordVPN: 2

I connected both to different servers, and both changed my location successfully.
The primary concern is that the VPN must change to the selected location; otherwise, geo-restricted services might not work. In this situation, both connected to the requested server. Check out the video above to see both in action.
DNS leak test
DNS leak is not a good sign. A DNS leak means that there is a leak in the connection. Other parties, especially your ISP, can see data. A good VPN must avoid this at any cost. In our case, both did a good job.
What is P2P? Peer-to-Peer or P2P is a network that allows downloading over the torrent network. Although a common server will support P2P, VPNs today offer P2P optimised servers for the fastest speed possible.
Torrenting test on wi-fi
The wifi P2P test of NordVPN vs. CyberGhost goes to CyberGhost. The tool was fast enough to pick up the speed that I needed in a quick time.
The recorded speed was 1.9 Mbps. NordVPN, on the other hand, took some time to pick up, and it got to 960 Kbps, but still, that is half than what CyberGhost showed.
Winner: CyberGhost | Score: CyberGhost: 3

Torrenting test on mobile data
Even the paid VPN’s don’t really like the mobile data when it comes to P2P. This time, even we connected to an optimised server, we still did not get half the speed as wi-fi. Anyway, NordVPN was slightly better, but it took a long time. Overall, this round is a tie.

- 1-day free trial
Winner: NordVPN | Score: NordVPN: 3
NordVPN is slightly expensive for the yearly and 2-year plans. It does not offer the 3-year plan, which, by the way, is a great saving for someone who seeks more VPN time.
Which one is for you?
Overall, I believe that NordVPN offers fewer servers, but it was more responsive and faster in terms of speed and connection time than CyberGhost. If you are looking for a long-term plan, you should try CyberGhost’s 2-year or 3-year plan.
NordVPN would be the perfect choice for users who always hurry and want more security and fewer interruptions, as NordVPN offers more security features.
Final score: in NordVPN: 3 | CyberGhost is 3
